New TX Concealed law???

Has the concealed handgun law changed a little this year. I was told that now you could have a concealed gun in your truck without having the license. Does anybody know if this is right? I don't want to get the license, nor do I want to have a gun on me, but I would like to have one in the truck when I travel.

I was told by a DPS officer that all they did was redefine "traveling". It is not across counties any more. Problem was, when you got to were you were going, you were not "traveling" any more so you were breaking the law. Now you are "traveling" whenever your driving your vehicle, like it should be.

Thats it exactly, as long as you are not otherwise restricted from possessing a firearm, or engaged in the commission of a class B misdemeanor or greater, your good. You weapon absolutely has to be concealed in you vehicle. That law was new in 2006, there is some chatter and further definition as of late.

So before, they didn't consider "traveling" when inside your home county, therefore it wasn't allowed? Now, "traveling" is anytime your driving? So I should be ok, as long as it is completely concealed?

thanks

Yep, thats it. I think prior to Sep, 1 2006 "traveler" was not well defined and there were many misconceptions among both law enforcement and citizens, I would hear people say stuff like "if your traveling across 3 counties, and are going to spend the night it's OK" another guy told me that if you had more than $10,000 in cash on you, it was OK. I told him if he got caught with 10 grand and an unlicensed pistol, there would be NOTHING OK about that.

..but yes, as long as it is concealed, and your not otherwise prohibited from possessing a firearm, or have the weapon in your vehicle during the commission of a class B misdemeanor or better, weather the gun is involved or not, it could be driving with a suspended license, you'll be OK.
