Had the dogs out today....

so I took my GSP pup and a dog im hunting for an older guy out today to stretch em out on my inlaws farm and managed to hammer a small covey, cant wait till things go live here in bout 3weeks....

You seeing a lot of birds?

Thats a hard question to answer.... ive seen more quail in the last 2 years than ive seen in the last 10 but i still dont see a ton. i can more or less get my dogs into a covey every time i go out to train but i train on the same 5-6 coveys of birds through the spring and summer, and dont hunt those birds. come fall i have to burn up the boot leather to kill many birds. i do better than most but my old pointer died last spring and my pup is just coming into his first season so id say itll be slim pickins and alot of game preserve birds for him this year. i am planning a trip to the prarie this winter so it wont be all bad.

we are putting 100acres of my inlaws farm into CRP this fall so maybe itll get a little better at least as far a training goes.

It seems to be the same here. Man, it has been terrible for years. They claim the fire ants had a lot to do with it, I think the feral hogs do as well.
