Y'all had any luck?
My oldest daughter and I are hitting the ranch next weekend to see if we can bag a couple birds. I was out there a few weeks ago doing some fence work and saw two groups of Jakes - about 5 per group - and I saw what looked like a couple NICE gobblers but couldn't get a good look.
So have any of y'all had any luck? I'd love to see some pics! I'm taking my video camera next weekend so HOPEFULLY I can get some good footage for y'all.

Figured I'd give the huntin' crowd an update - my oldest daughter got her first turkey this past weekend. I got it all on tape and I'll have it posted this evening.......don't mind the WAY overly excited father holding the camera - that's just ME. It was a fun weekend all around. My wifes uncle has a farm about 30 min from our ranch so we spent the weekend with them and as usual we stayed up WAY too late visiting and got a bit of a late start. I guess we got to the ranch about 45 min after sun up and I was trimming some brush on the way in and could hear a gobbler or two every so often but wanted to get the brush cleared before it started getting too hot. Anyway I finished and we geared up - I told her we'd just walk around, look for shed horns and wait until we heard one gobble and go set up on him. Thats exactly what happened. We didn't walk but about a 1/4 mile and I heard one call so I looked around and finally picked us out a spot to set up that only had two lanes they could come through. The "blind" I had is basically just a deal you stick in the ground and get behind for cover. The wind was blowing pretty good and it was blowing the blind over on top of us but I was able to hold it up as best I could. Looking back on it I wish I'd secured it a bit better and also taken into consideration the sun reflecting off the material. Oh well - lessons learned. I probably worked them about 30 min or so before they came on in. There were as best I can tell 4 of them but we only got two on tape. When they walked out the lead bird immediately saw the blind and you can see his neck stretch up when he realizes something is wrong......that was all the time my daughter needed to take the shot. Well I'll post the video and pictures when I get home today. |
