WHY ALL THE AUTOMATICS?

I am looking at getting a 2004-2006 F350. I would like it to be a manual 6 speed since that is what I have always driven.. I have been looking ALL OVER at used trucks & they are far & few between. WHY? Am I better off with an automatic? I just find it odd that if you look at Dodge CD, just about all of them are manual! I found out it is a little different with Fords. I will be using the truck for towing snowmobile trailer & hay.

I hate my automatic with a passion. It's getting yanked out next month and a manual is going in.

More autos on the Ford b/c our trans is a lot better than the Cummins.

That's an interesting question. I'm sure part of the answer is that the tranny behind the Cummins isn't very good but the ones in our trucks aren't that great either (although they're better than the Dodge). When I bought my '01 I ended up ordering it in order to get the stick with the cab/bed combo I wanted. All the dealers I checked with said that when they do get them with standards they don't hang around long. I've got three local dealers that want me to let them know when I'm ready to sell. Not to get side tracked but I don't understand why it's so hard to find an 8' bed either. I've had one truck with the short bed and it was just about useless.

At that the truth. With my toolbox in my shortbed, there is noo room. I wish i had bought a long bed.

And if i could change it over to an 8' for relatively cheap, i'd have already done it.

But switching it over would be far to big a project, and definitely wouldn't be worth the time and money invested.

When I went to buy my truck I looked at two CD's and my Pstroke and they were all auto's. Mine seems to be pretty good though.

2005 350 SDSC 4x4 Auto 6.0h no

Mods
turbo back exhaust, EGR delete, GPS, DVD, MP3
Privacy glass

You can get cruise on a standard too there jarrod.

I really wanted a manual shift when i was lookin for a PSD, but they were really hard to come by, and at the time i bought my truck, people were really holding on to them. This truck had everything i wanted except the manual trans, but it wasn't that critical to have. Some days i still sorta wish i had a manual. Well, most days actually. When my auto pukes, i have seriously considered swapping it to a manual.
