Well lots of people are running around with CB's in there ride. But how many of you guys have VHF radios or CB's. They work alot better for range and such but there also illegal to use on land.

I have my VHF radio and a UHF and my HF radio installed . . .

. . . and all perfectly legal. I have my Amateur Radio Licence. Now that the FCC has dropped the requirement for CW it's somewhat easier to get your ticket. But, Amateur Radio is not CB radio. You can not use CB lingo on the Ham Bands and certainly can not use the same language that is heard on the 11M band.

^^^ what he said.

What i would do if I were you is get an amateur license (easy to do) and use the 2m (~140mhz) band. It has the same range as marine VHF, and it's legal. And, if you really want to, you can still use your amateur VHF on marine frequencies when you are doing something that is marine related.

But PhyreFyter is right also in that it is a gentlemanly group that uses amateur radio. And they police them selves pretty well. So just keep it G rated. Or use a cell phone.

but in Alaska we also use VHF (non marine) in the trucking industry so we have good range and a lot of channels to BS or work on.
