Good Deal or Hidden Issue?

A local non-Ford dealer a 2001 F350 7.3L ,83K miles, ext cab, long bed, 4x4 asking $12k. Claims the truck was a single owner and only mechanical "issues" are, "A valve cover leak and oil pan leak that are not bad leaks."

I may go take a look at it but before I do, does this deal sound too good to be true??

I'm not familiar with these trucks nor the cost to repair these items.

You advice is appreciated.

Good Deal or Hidden Issue?

Valve cover is easy. Oil pan not so much. You have to pull the whole motor to fix it. I bet that's why it's going so low. Around here that truck would be on the market for at least 20k. I would buy it. It would save some coin if you could do it your self. Also make sure it's cold when you start it and check for blow by. To do it start it then flip the oil cap over and set it back on the fill tube. If it blows off it needs rebuilt. If it rattles off it's all good.

Thanks for the info. Anyone know roughly how much a shop would charge for this fix?

OK, If I (or a shop) were to pull the engine out, what other components should I consider replacing / upgrading at that time? Water pump?

I'd do up pipes. And check for leaks on your rear main. The rest is really easy to get to. Check your front cover also. If you need to pull it the pan needs to come off. I have no clue on price to pull it
