Upgrades, emissions, etc.
Ok folks, here's where I'm at. '05 6.0 PSD. I primarily pull a 7500# +/- travel trailer, with a motorcycle in the bed of the truck. I would like to increase cold air intake and open the exhaust up a little with a larger bore exhaust. I have to leave the cat on I think because they inspect for it at emissions testing. I have been thinking about one of the computer chip programmers (ie. Hypertech or ??), but here's where I have the problem. I have no pyrometer, and dont' know whethere I need to worry about that or not. I'm not trying to make a quarter miler, just one that works a little better. Pulls great as it is, just trying to make it work "easier"....if it's possible.
Comments on my train of thought? Products you may have in mind? I really don't have the desire, or the G's for all the bank's upgrades.....unless it's a must.... |

If you add a chip please, please get a pyrometer. If you look at most of them they state "NOT RECOMMENDED FOR TOWING". If the chip increases fuel you get heat. The larger exhaust will help. Just remember "cause & effect".
Check out Banks.. they have kits that will allow towing. |

if you chip a six-0 you will have a good chance of a headgasket failure....just a warning. there is a lot of other discussion on this in other posts, so i will not go on and on about the same points again.
