Opinions/Help with buying Diesel!

Newbie here. I've never owned a diesel truck before and want to buy a truck to put a truck camper in to use as a camping vehicle. It will not be my daily driver. I've looked and looked all over the web and have found a few nice things in my price range $5000-$5500. I want to get an F350 because of the payload capacity and I also want a diesel because a few guys at work have told me that they get better gas mileage and that the engines are bullet proof. I recently found a 2001 f350 4x4 lariat 7.3l powerstroke with 223,000 on it that looks good for $5200 on auto trader from a dealer about 4 hours from my house. I called and put a refundable $100 deposit for them to hold the vehicle for me because I recently drove 2 hours to look at a different truck only to get told that it had been sold!
I'm going to drive up there on saturday to inspect the truck and would like to know what to look/listen for on this year engine/truck. They already told me that it needs new tires and has some rust around the fenders which I can see on the pictures.

Is this a good buy?
Is this too many miles for the price?
What should I check for?

Any other opinions/advice?

Heres the truck!

First and foremost check the 7.3 section to see common issues on the 7.3. They don't have a lot of issues but there are a few. Secondly, no diesel is bulletproof, no matter what your buddies tell you. If I were in your position I would look for an obs just due to the amount of rot on the truck you have listed. Rust is really tough on any vehicle and you could be getting a lot more truck for the money you are looking to spend if you look for an older truck that the owner has cared for a bit better. Just my 2 cents.
