New Truck, new issues

I just bought my first diesel. A 1996 F250 PSD extended cab shortbed. I filled the tanks to what the pump would let me. On the rear it shutoff almost immediately. I later turned ignition to on and the gauge dropped to empty when I switched to the rear tank. What are the possible causes? Also, I so far have replaced the air filter, fuel filter and am doing an oil change this weekend. Anything else I need to look into doing? 280,000 miles on the engine.

You'll have better luck posting this in the OBS section of the forum.

My guess is that the the gauge's sending unit for the rear tank is just messed up.
I'd drop the tank and check that/replace it first.

PIS 175/80's, Van Turbo with EBPV, BD Billet Wheel
Lots of money spent at RiffRaff
Holley fuel pump, in tank mods, crappy riding leveling kit, DP-F6, 5 Gauges+Edge CS in dash, CB radio in Dash, over 100 goofy little mods
Still pretty slow, just less slow now.
