newbie question about cats..

I caught the bug. Bought a 2000 7.3 today (black, lariat, 90,000 miles) and I went to my buddies shop and was installing a chip while I talked to him about the exhaust.

He told me alot of fords came without cats and that you can call in and ford will run your vin which will let you know whether or not you need cats for emissions. I live in an area where cats are required, but after he told me that i crawled underneath and couldnt find a cat anywhere. The exhaust is stock too...

Anyone know anything else about this?

That year truck from my understanding if it was not a truck for Cali. Then it don't have a Cat. My 2002 came with out a CAT. But I live in Michigan, what your buddy is referring to is the OASIS report on the truck.

If you become a Premium Member here you can have one ran for you as well.

Interesting. I wonder if it is necessary to have the truck emissions tested then...
