99 7.3 6-speed 4x4

I have the chance to buy a 99 7.3 6-speed 4x4 it would be my daily driver, and I don't tow alot. I drove a 96 12v cummins and it had lots of get up and go, would I be disappointed with the 7.3's performance? how are these 6-speed 7.3's?

that's what I have as well. I like it, I ordered it new. One thing, they are reputed to be one of the worst ones of all time for the EBPV shutting itself at part throttle. I unplugged, then later on gutted mine and end of problems. Also had the clutch arm break, at about 70k miles, was way out of warranty, so put in a southbend clutch and new flywheel, and a short throw shifter kit.
What gears in the one you're looking at? I ordered mine with 4:10's, so I see 60 mph at about 2000rpm when it had stock tires and found I could get about 15mpg, every 100 rpm over that on open highway I lost about 1 mpg. right now, have 295/85 22.5's on it, they are about 40" tall, so now I get 75 road speed at 2000 rpm, and still about 14-15 mpg.

One downside to the 6 spd, if it's not programmed, it bogs really bad when taking off, like trying to jump out into traffic until it sees enough rpm to start building some boost. I'm just running the superchips programmer on the tow mode, it'll smoke a bit but did wonders for getting it to take off. With the bigger tires, I know I really need to swap to a turbo that builds much lower and quicker.

If still stock, we have the smaller HPOP and I think our turbo's, while maybe a little smaller, already have a wicked wheel type wheel in them- check on that for yourself before you assume I'm right!

Overall, they aren't perfect, they will never make the power the newest ones make off the showroom floor, or get the mileage a cummins does, but I am perfectly happy with the mod's I've done, and expect it'll be running while most of the new ones are sitting at the dealer with emission or injector problems time after time, I figure if they break new, they will continue to break long after the warranty runs out.

99 F350 CC DRW 4x4 PSD 6 spd 4:10 Programmed, 4"exh, 8" lift Kelderman 4 link air ride rear, southbend clutch (and arm!) 295/85R22.5's, AFE stgII gauges, push bar, 07 lights, recon smoked fender and rears, ARE shell, DynaTrak combo front,
, Short throw Shifter, Airdog, Regulated Return fuel, Coolant filter, Bypass Oil Filter. Next:BB Turbo, CAC, Injectors, HPOP, Head studs, and anything else I can afford
