Engine Link App

Hi, saw this being asked about in another thread. Thought I would post a few screen shots of it for everyone.

Note: I am not the most tech savvy person on here, so if I can use this, anyone can.

This app on my iPad works well for me, and did not cost much at all.

The Elm327 was about $45 including shipping and a cord if you ever wanted to plug it into a laptop, and the app was $5. Engine Link App

But the info, for $50, is well worth it in my opinion. And works for other vehicles as well. And you can clear codes with it as well.

Ill let the pictures do the talking.

Are all the ELM 327 the same on Amazon? Some way they are compatible with Android but nothing about iPhone. I would imagine the bluetooth on them is the same signal for either device, no?

I would assume so? But I don't know for sure. I got mine off ebay, I think it said it was good for both.

Do you have to have software disc to go with it or does that matter?

No, I just plugged it in to the obd port, followed the instructions, and it worked. Took about 5 minutes. Then just played around with it for an hour to figure it out and set up th PID's I wanted.

The adapter works for the OBDII/CAN Bus. There was no I-device app previously, only the DashBoss and Android Torque.

Yes, the pricing has dropped significantly in the past year and the features are very good. Much better than the ScanGauge II. However, if you want analog inputs (fuel pressure, EGT) you will need a better device or hard wired sensors & gauges.

I also just purchased this app, and obdii wifi sensor. I am waiting for my sensor to come, but I will also post what I find with this monitoring system in the coming days.

So after a week of monitoring with Engine Link here is my take.

(1) Helped me diagnose low voltage on my FICM main
(2) When connected by WiFi, you can use google maps or anything else (BIG DOWNSIDE)
(3) Monitors quite a few other PIDS including coolant temp, ICP pressure, battery voltage, FICM Logic Power, FICM vehicle, etc
(4) Can write custom PIDS but must know how to do it including the ECU numbers, mode, etc. Wish I had some guidance here.
(5) Layout is good and you can fully customize the layout that you want
(6) Haven't found a way to track mpg for diesel and a lot of the app is geared towards gas vehicles

^^^ Update to the above post. If you create a static IP address you can use your other internet enabled features. Add that to the plus side.

From what I've seen the Bluetooth adapters are used for Android and wifi adapters are for apple. Those cheap elm327 devices on Amazon or Ebay are hit and miss on how well they work, especially on diesels for some reason. I borrowed one that worked well and have ordered one of my own. The cheapies use old tech but you can get the plx kiwi one for more $.
