OBD III ???? heard of this?

My brother works at a repair shop and was just telling me about the new OBD III system that is being developed. Sounds like if your PCM throws a code a transponder will send your info to the motor vehicles department and they can force you to get your vehicle tested/fixed or send you a ticket in the mail. He was also saying they were talking about possibly making it so if you didnt get the problem fixed within a certain number of engine cycles the PCM would shut your vehicle down so it couldnt start.

Old article...date at the bottom is May of 1996. You notice they talk about OBDII like it is new and the "debate" is just ending.

There will always be a debate about "big brother" watching. Heck, most of our newer trucks "might have" a black box in 'em.

The OBDIII debate is part of the reason GM came up with On Star. But OBDIII never came into effect

Thats one of the cool things about OnStar if you get a CEL you can get the diagnostic code in your email

Yeah, knew it does maintanence type stuff, but didn't realize it was tied to OBDIII.

Thanks, I didnt even see the date, My brother was talking about it like it was something new, I had never heard anything about it.
