Do I buy it? 04 f250 6.0

Hey guys, new member, hopefully long time member...I have a chance to buy a 04 supercab fx4 with only 71k for 16k and a week of free manual labor from a buddy. This thing was a California truck up until a year ago and hasn't seen too much of our northeast winter.

I've read an awful lot about these 6.0's, none good. At this mileage would this be a safe buy? Turbo has already been replace and the owner has all service records. Let me also add, though I'm a general contractor I do NOT tow, or do much highway driving. With the problems this engine seems to have is this the wrong truck for me? I'm looking diesel super duty for durability and longevity. Thcnks in advance for any input.

To start an 04 with only 71k is not bad at all and the price sounds pretty good also. That's said not knowing the over all condition of the truck.

Check this out --->Things to consider about owning a 6.0L

Not sure where the truck will be registered but if you can get rid of the egr cooler you will be heading in the right direction of making your truck more reliable. First of all get a monitor, they are very important in knowing what is going on with your engine.

Also check this out ---> What to look for when buying a used 6.0L

Ps. Welcome to the Org.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Overall condition is incredible. Old man owned and maintained out in California, he gave the truck to his son (my friend). It really is spotless inside and out. Not sure about Rhode Island regs and the egr. It wouldn't affect registration, I'd just delete it after registration, RI has their heads up their rears at the dmv. Inspections for diesels are annually here as opposed to gassers every two years, that might be where I have a problem. I turn wrenches on every truck I've owned...hoping I can keep up with the learning curve of a diesel.
