Question Buying first diesel, opinion on this please

So as it is to be said, I am buying my first diesel and decide to go with the 6.0 I found a truck that sparks my interest. My buddy who owns one tells me it is a good deal and wanted some more opinions on it. It's a 2004 f250 lariat with 170k It has the egr delete done to it, an k&n air filter, edge attitude juice programmer, 9" skyjacker suspension lift sitting on 35" pro comp extremes on 20" tires. Also has a bed cover aftermarket speakers with sub and amp, tinted windows. Just got a new oil cooler, valve cover gaskets, ipr regulator, and 3 new injectors. He is asking 15,500 but I plan to try to talk him down on the price as much as possible. I'm just not sure on the miles for the price. Any advice is welcome and I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong section, just figures General would be the place to go.

Thanks,
Zach

Just sold my 03 6.0 with 214k on it. I have spent almost 26k on it in the last 5 years JUST TO KEEP IT RUNNING! RUN, just RUN from anything with the 6.0. Sorry to wreck you thoughts on the truck but the 6.0 was the worst mess Ford ever came up with. That is the second year, so may be a little better. Anyone else with thoughts?

I have a 2005 f350 with 256k, and I've spent all of 3k on it to keep it running. I recently did head gaskets, studs, egr delete, new oil cooler, and had to replace 2 injectors. it runs better and stronger now than when I first bought it. I do all the maintenance myself, only use T6 rotella, rev-x, and ELC coolant. I think the longevity of the truck or any vehicle for that matter is in the maintenance. People have had great experiences, others not so much. If you address all of the weak poi ts of the motor you'll have a fine truck on your hands. Hope this helps

Justin

Thanks for the advice. It must be a 2nd year thing, my buddies is an 04 I believe and doesn't have many problems with his other than minor to be expected problems. I found a better deal on one with a lot less miles, I'm waiting on a little more work to be done on it and hopefully then I'll be posting pictures of it up.
