Locked in Park

My 08 350 has experienced a number of locked in park incidents. It usually happens after towing my 5th wheel for a distance and then putting it in park to prepare to unhook. My local dealer was unable to duplicate the problem but replaced a stop switch in the dash. When it happens the brake lights do not work either. If I let it sit and cool down for an hour or so it goes right into gear and works fine. Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Locked in Park

I happens when I have stopped and am ready to unhook the trailer. Always after being in Tow/Haul mode but not all the time. If I let it set for an hour or so it will go out of park and into gear. Checked with the dealer this morning and they dont know what the problem is. They cannot duplicate it in the shop. It has happened three times since April of this year. The truck has 92688 miles on it.

It's not a fix but if you barely turn the key on to where it's in between the off position and 1st position, you can pull it out of park and move it to neutral then start your truck and put in gear. I know that worked up through 07, so I'm assuming it will work on yours.

Locked in Park

Thanks for the tip. I will try it the next time it happens. I am sure it will happen again as we travel quite a bit throughout the year with our 5th wheel.
The local dealer is going to contact FOMOCO to see if they have any experience with this type of problem.

When you put it in park and let off the brake, does the truck roll forward or backward AT ALL?

^ Okay then, I've got nothing. Sorry guy. A lot of people don't set the parking brake, so when they let off the brake it rolls back and makes getting out of parking gear very difficult.

Check your brake light circuit maybe a problem with your trailer lights. Are they working prior to shutting truck down to un-couple? No brake lights will lock the shifter in park. There should be a release (with a pin or small screwdriver), check owners manual for location. Are the brake lights on a breaker or fuse?
