Hey Duramax.
So I'm on here at school cause I rule and finished my work early. There's a guy in my class that drives a Duramax (I call him Duramax, and he calls me Powerstroke).
We got to chattin today and it went like this: "Hey Duramax. What's up." "Hey man." "How's the truck runnin?" "It aint, I had to get it towed 70 miles home..." "What the hell did you do??" "Cracked a piston." "WHAT?! That's a 2006 ... I know you got it modded, what were you runnin at the time" "Between 470 and 500hp, I punched it on the expressway and had the water/meth injection on and everything..." "So you were pushing barely 500 horses and cracked a piston..." "Yep." "*Pffhehem..* You know why?" "Yeah." "You know what I'm gonna say...?" "Yeah shut up man" lol I hope he shows me pics one of these days! LOL! Love them Chebby's eh! I oughtta show him Maintain's pics of his beautiful perfect shiny pistons after thousands of miles pushing horses in the 400's. I dunno, I found it funny... |

Meth + High EGT's = cracked pistons. The LBZ's (06-07.5 Duramax) are known for doing it because the casting was outsourced to taiwan or something and is made from cheap metal. He wasn't pushing 500 rwhp either if a tune and meth were his only modifications. Here's a picture of what they look like... seen it first hand.

yeah. I know don't have room to talk I'm only pushing half the ponies he was, BUT if I was I bet it wouldn't crack a piston after a year of being modded right? He's planning on fixing it, and he's got the dough to do it. Still lol.

Cracked pistons aren't as common in powerstrokes as they are the LBZ, but then again there aren't nearly as many powerstrokes pushing the same numbers.
Careful what you say to him... LBZ's crack pistons, powerstrokes break rods that kill the block. I'd rather have a cracked piston. Especially since you can get a set of factory LB7 pistons made out of better metal that will hold up |

+1 on the 500 rwhp. A tuned/injected LBZ against my truck is neck and neck from 60 punch. I'd say 400-450rwhp depending on tunes.
Take the 4wd launch out of the equation, the duramax is a de-clawed kitty cat. Especially since after I helped tune his truck to beat a common rail that is out to get me, he broke a front shaft not more than a week after I got the truck back to him

Ouch son, did he say what it sounded like?

Good conversation though. 500 or not.

With EFI Live, or PPE... 500 with a few supportings mods (CP3/Lift pump modification, tranny, etc..) is certainly attainable.
But tune and meth, that guy probably had a superchips lmao. |
