Scheid Diesel Extravaganza bust

http://www.indystar.com/article/2013...za-Terre-Haute

Quote:
Indiana State Excise Police arrested more than 250 people at the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza in Terre Haute this weekend.

The number of charges dolled out to the 254 attendees of the annual diesel engine and truck festival reached 305 this year — more than 100 more than last year, when the total reached 178 charges.

Police say 105 people were arrested on charges of possessing or drinking alcohol while underage; 21 of those people were less than 18 years old.

Several people, police said, were arrested on criminal recklessness charges after police found them power braking among large crowds of people in store parking lots along U.S. 41.

“In each case, the trucks swayed in the rear while holding occupants in the truck beds, in addition to there being numerous pedestrians immediately next to the trucks,” according to an Excise Police news release.

“One of them was also charged with operating while intoxicated.”

A liquor store, Party Cask Beverage Center, was cited for sale of alcohol to a minor and allowing the minor to loiter. Officers found an underage male walking out of the store with a case of beer. Police say the ID he used at the store had another person’s photograph on it and listed that person’s height as 5 feet 6 inches. The minor was actually 6 feet 1 inch tall.

Other citations included excessive exhaust or smoke, violations of open container laws, seat belt violations and other traffic offenses.

250 people!!!

Obviously, things were out of control at this Free-4-All event.... Maybe the excesses happened on Both sides, hard to know, but with THAT MANY arrests, I'm sure something needed to be done. I wouldn't have wanted My Kid to be in a crowd with a bunch of drunken YaHoos behind the wheel

And, btw, what's the title "Excise Police" all about? I've never heard it.

I was there the whole weekend and stayed on the fairgrounds. I didn't even think it was that bad, I mean yea, the cops were everywhere and most of the time for good reason. But, two years ago it was a lot worse than this year I think anyway. I don't know. I don't see the city letting this event last much longer. I don't care how much money they make from this event. They don't want that reputation
