America's Idenity

Do you think America's idenity is begining to go away because of the assult on our language, borders and culture by illegal immigrants, and other people that come in and don't respect what we have?

Glad you said something, after that discussion last night, I was thinkin about that all evening. I think it is deffinatley a growing problem, at least up here in Indiana. It is obvious there are many different thoughts on this. In my thoughts, I believe that a person coming to the US should be speaking clear ENGLISH. I understand we have guests from other countries, but guests don't work at McDonald's, they stay in nice hotels and spend money on American culture! If I don't want lettuce on my sandwich, I don't want to have to explain it, or have someone translate it! Too much diversity can and will be a problem someday... got papers?

Being a Texan I've got a MAJOR issue with our border's trust me. I won't even climb up on that soap box but let me say this - I understand and respect the fact that we are a diverse country. That diversity is our foundation and what makes this the great nation that we are. But when I call someplace and have to "press one for English" I've a SLIGHT friggin problem with that.
Oh and it's MERRY CHRISTMAS WalMart!

Totally agree with you Farmboy!! And picture this.... the valley I reside in is HUGE on farming and I'm right up I-5 (for those that don't know goes from Canada to Mexico).... anufsed?

I'm all for diversity as well. But I get annoyed when I hear the schools systems around here are beginning to make second language classes mandatory for no less than two semesters. I think that if you come to our country to live, you should learn to speak and understand our language. I would do the same if I went to another non-english speaking country to live. Visiting is one thing, living is another. I don't know how many times I have called a place, or been in a fast food place and the employee speaks not broken but shattered english. It's okay to hire them, but maybe employers should put them through some classes before you put them behind the counter or phone and help them out....

I aint tryin to start nothing but by all ya'lls own way of thinking we should be speaking American Indian instead of english. Just some food for thought from the Seminole Indian (just one of the tribes down in Florida). Oh and by the way how can Coloumbus be credited with discovering America when there were already people living here.

Just remember if it wasnt for the generosity and acceptance of foreignors by the Original Americans we(read you all) may not be here today. Just my 2 cents. Like I said aint tryin to start nothing.

Our borders open, our guard is down, who watches over me
Our leaders claim we are all the same, but o how could that be
That lazy bum deserves no more than a cot beneath a tree

We pay the way for the welfare groups and sit and watch them grow
Mexico they have it bad, the ambitious they must go
Immigrants they do the work, for our food they do sow
They find work of abundance here, our for-fathers made it so

How long before we all will look and put our foot hard down
And scream so loud that welfare bums can’t miss our ugly sound
Maybe we can ship some out and gain some solid ground
Let’s ship them south to Mexico, some quite little town

I think that we should trade straight up, we’ll stand and watch them go
The ones we get back, they like to work, more food we’ll have you know
And welfare - it will go away, our pockets they will show
The greatness of this country, cause you’ll watch the workers glow

God Bless the worker, with out them all the welfare people would starve.
