Maybe going from a 7.3 to a 6.0

First off I have no intention of starting a 7.3 vs 6.0 war but I do have some concerns. History - my 2000 7.3L F350 Crew Cab 4X4 Lariat was taken out buy a guy who ran a red light. Insurance totaled the truck. Heartbroken, I've been looking for 3 months in Southern California for a 2000 to 2003 replacement 7.3L and I'm not having much luck finding a duplicate truck that's worth picking up for a reasonable price. I've been seeing lots of 6.0L powerstrokes that would fit the bill but I'm hesitant to go that route. My buddy had an '03 that gave him some issues but he also has an '06 that has been a good truck. What do I need to know about the 6.0 that would help me make a decision on a truck? Or should I keep on looking for a 7.3L to pop up?

If you can... hold out for a 7.3 that is good quality reasonable deal...

If not get a late model 6. ohhhhh

About $22K. I really can't afford to go beyond that.

I bought this truck (seen below) for 22,500 out the door. It needs a new tailgate though. My advice to you would be to find as late of a model as possible (03 and 04 6.0s are plagued with problems.

I didn't need 4wd or the longbed, which add about $2200 to the value of the truck, for what it's worth. If you don't need to buy it immediately, wait around to find a really good deal on one.

At the end of the day, it's still somewhat of a crapshoot. When buying used, no one is going to let you load up a 10k lb trailer and floor it up a hill to test if the EGR system works. It's probably worth taking it to a mechanic if you're seriously considering buying it

That sucks about your truck. I say hold out for a 7.3. Also to I live about 3 miles from MV. I'm in Trabuco Canyon.
