I've got a pretty good rip in my firewall heat shielding. And, of course, it's laying right over the turbine housing. It started burning & smoke started coming from the defroster vents. Does anyone know a repair method to remedy this? I don't want to rip the turbo out AGAIN & scrape the heat shielding off. Someone suggested duct tape, but that really sounds gaff & in my opinion, duct tape would probably melt. Can anyone give me some feedback?

If you can find somebody in aviation, or maybe a local HVAC supply company, we use an aluminum foil type tape on certain higher heat areas of aircraft. As long as the surface is clean it should stick OK. If you can't find any let me know, I have a roll of it here at home.
