Ford Owns Cummins. The silly things people come up with.

So I see on a post from Royal Purple on facebook about them taking a customers truck to SEMA if it is "awesome enough" and someone had to go "Ford owns Cummins" line . I googled the heck out of it and and all I can find is they own/owned shares. People these days.

honestly since Dodge put the first Cummins engine in their trucks I heard that Ford owned the rights to the cummins engine. Not exactly sure what truth was in it but that is what I had heard for years. Supposidly that is why for the first 10 years of the cummins engine in a dodge truck they couldnt have a full 4 door 1 ton because it was part of the contract that was signed between the companies involved. just a little input not that I know anything about anything.

Where is this? Tried googling it, but found zilch on Ford ever owning the rights to Cummins or any reasons other than "Four doors were not selling as much"

Ford was out of their mind for not putting the cummins engine in their truck but they were smart enough to corner a large part of the market by their contract stipulations. As for where is this information it was in the 80s before GOOGLE before the internet. Its in the archives of stupid known information by some dumb Texan that had nothing better to do as a kid but listen to all the old men at the shop my dad worked at lol... So with that being said whom ever you were listening to did know a little bit about what they were talking about.

Ford never "owned" Cummins, they were a large shareholder.

Maybe Ford owns Cummings and not Cummins.

I also heard that Jack Roush headed the group that put the first Cummins in a Dodge pickup.

Jack Roush had nothing to do with diesel, that was all Cummins board members I believe. That being said, Jack does make a mean Mustang

From my understanding, just about everyone owns shares in Cummins. Dodge just happens to have the contract to put Cummins in their "light duty"trucks. Other manufacturers can install them in their medium and heavy duty trucks.. this is just what I've heard.

But I've also heard that Ford is installing Cummins when the dodge contact is up. Been hearing this rumor for years, keyword rumor. Lmfao.. believe it when I see it...
