2008 6.4 questions...

So i just bought a 2008 6.4l ps crew cab 4x4. traded the ol 7.3 in on it, was time for a new one. and i know nothing about the new diesels ive been stuck on my 7.3 for 8 yrs. i had a few questions about my new truck, i know nothing about dpf and egr delete but i think its on this truck, it also has all the wires for a programmer but no screen display. is the actual tuning done in the display? im pretty sure its bully dog gt tuner components. it def has a delete pipe. and seems pretty quick and does blow a little black smoke, nothing like my chipped 7.3. it also has a sinister diesel blue cap under the hood. any ideas of what might be done to it? havent had time to take it anywhere thought i might try here first. thanks in advance

It is, for sure been tuned & deleted, but the tuner itself been removed.
Take some pics of the wires & post em here, so we can identify witch tuner was used.
The only thing you should NOT do.......is flash the pcm (till you get a tuner with delete).
You gotta come up with some $$$ soon.
Depending what you want, it could cost you between $500 - $1,500.

Hmmm I have no idea how to post pictures. But I thought it wouldn't run with the deletes and no tuner? What is the best tuner for mileage? I'm getting 20 now..

Previous owner probably left it tuned but kept the tuner, I do not believe that is a good thing. Because you are correct it wouldn't run correct without being tuned and still having the DPF delete in place.

Someone else will post up what it means with a tuned truck and no tuner to untune. Then again, you shouldn't need to untune it really, so not a big deal I guess. Ther is a mini max for sale for like 1150 in the performance section, good price right now.

What good is the tuner if the time is still on the truck? Seems dumb to me.

I can't tell exactly what that box is from, but it looks exactly like my Mini Maxx box. I think Bully Dog uses the same hardware though, so it could be one of those too.

A new tuner will overwrite the existing tune, so as long as you get something decent you'll be fine. And yeah, the tuner display is probably no good to whoever has it, since the tune is still on your truck.

I really like my Mini Maxx, and a lot of people recommend it, but the old off road version is kinda expensive. A lot of people like Spartan too.

Enjoy your 6.4, I love mine. Keep up on the maintenance though. Change your fluids and filters regularly. Keep a close eye on your coolant. Keep your water separator drained. Watch for any issues with anything and fix them immediately. These trucks aren't at all forgiving to lack of maintenance.

Yea I think it's a mini max the bully dog does not have the fuse on the side. And I was going to attempt to find the guy that owned it before me to see if he realizes the display is no good. I love it so far. And thanks for the input! I am pretty anal about keeping things working right. First time I've spent this much on a truck so I will def be taking care of it!
