Start an abondonned 1987 6.9L Ford
I just recently purchased a nice 1987 6.9L diesel pickup that was working when it was parked 3 years ago. This is my first diesel pickup. What do I need to look for before I try to turnover this engine?
I'm worried about contaminated fuel (microbial growth, water, dirt, etc). Should I worry about the fuel tank, filters, fuel pumps, injectors, or injector lines? Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. |

Drain fuel, change fuel filters, possibly change oil and filter or at least check it before you run at all, may run it with the old oil to loosen everything up if your on a budget. Check the belt to make sure its not dry rotted, check/replace air filter. Make sure you have pretty good charge on your batteries also!
