Looking at Buying a PSD

As it says im looking at buying a PSD and have a few questions. I want a 6.0L but i am worried about the problems they had in 03 and the fact they changed the suspension in 05. That leaves me with an 04. Should i be wary of the 03 engines. I know navistar has built great engines in the past and i have family members that have owned several 7.3 and i loved driving them. But lets face it. The new 6.0 has many power benifits over the 7.3.

Also, if i were to buy a 7.3 i know that if i chipped it i could get over a stock 6.0 but would be nowhere near the 6.0 chipped. Is there that much of a differance between the two chipped fully out. I dont tow a lot but when i do its quite heavy. What about hte MPGs compared between the both of them.

Also i am concerned with the fact they went to coil overs in the front in 05. Has anyone had a problem with them.

Im mainly conserned with the 03 model though. Any thoughts.

Im about 6 months out from buying one and i want to start putting a list of everything i want together.

This truck is going to be with me for a long time and i want to get it right the first time.

make sure you get an oasis report on whatever truck you pick. as for the truck i would say the o5-07 6.0 are a good truck

Thanks for the welcome. What do the 05-07 6.0's have that he 03-04's dont. Is there issues with the 04's too????!!!!

in o5 they had all the bugs worked out of the 6.0 and the had the coil over to for a better ride. the 6.4 seem to be a good motor to depending on how much you r willing to spend

plus what are you planing on doing with the truck? and how much power do you want ?

I'd recommend finding a 05-07. Most of the "issues" with the 6.0 were worked out in the later years, and the "new" front suspension is nothing but an improvment over the old, IMO. You get a better ride and better turning radius. My 07 CC SB turns better than my 99 SC SB. I have heard of no problems with the coil suspension either.

I agree. The ride is pretty nice. The solid axel with coil springs is a good combination of strength of a solid axel,great road stability,and a pretty decent ride .
Even if you did get an 03,if you were willing to go thru it,TSB by TSB,you stand a good chance of heading off any problems as all of the problems have been identified. Before buying one.....read the tsb's,especially the one about the bed block issue. Know what to look for and what the remedy involves.

Sounds like your getting good advice, my 05 rides and has much more power than my 02. The Turning radius is like night and day IMO. Be sure to get an OASIS report on anything you plan on buying. Alan will get you them if your a premium member for free, but you gotta go premium. It's a small price to pay for the peace of mind... Oh and
