Ford owns the "car" devision of Volvo....

GM owns the comercial truck division of Volvo....

Im sure there is more to it than that....but thats a pretty good reason right there

Here is the whole story on volvo. They actually bought the GM truck division and named them white/gmc for a short while. Volvo owns U.S. mack trucks.

heres the ford diesel spec.

In late 2007, AutoWeek reported that Ford will allegedly be putting a supercharged 4.4L diesel V8 engine in the F-150 for 2009. Expect it to have around 330 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque! GM & Dodge are also planning on putting diesel engines in 1/2 ton trucks, but Ford is expected to be the first to actually produce such a truck. The 4.4-liter engine is a larger version of the 3.6-liter turbocharged V-8 used in European market Land Rover Range Rovers.

I own two 2005 Volvo commercial trucks. I have to say they suck! EGR problems, intake manifolds crack, radiators suck. These trucks will be traded off this summer.
