Injector failure???

How can you tell if an injector is failing? Is there a particular noise to listen for?

Are you having any issues? Have you checked all the easy things first?You can do an injector buzz test to check the electrical side and then you can do a cylinder contribution test. I don't think the contribution test will always tell you if you have a bad injector though. One of the techs will chime in Im sure

I am noticing a noise when the motor is running. It makes the noise a gas motor will make when the valves rattle. You can hear it at idle and when running down the road...really noticeable when giving the truck gas. It also makes a knocking noise when warming up. Getting concerned because I thought it was nothing but it is not going away.

You can do these two tests with a good scan tool, one that an automitive repair garage or dealership would have. Bascially what they do is... a buzz test tests whether the injector wiring and solinoid is working, and a contribution test tests how each cylinder is running. If an injector was 'bad' and not firing, chances are that it would fail a contribution test. If you had an injector unplugged or a bad wiring harnedd it would probably fail a buzz test and set the check engine light.

You need someone who has a scanner to perform those tests. A dealer or a mechanic who can run it on a powerstroke. The buzz test checks the electrical side of the injector. The contribution test will check the rotational velocity of the piston to let you know if you have a bad cylinder or not.
