hello new guy here & i have a question.

my question is i am looking at getting a 1997 F-350 power stroke, 4x4, auto tranny,
is there any thing i should be looking for? or is there any thing that goes wrong with these truck that most every one runs into?
this would be my 1st ford diesel i have ever owned (if it works out) so i want to make sure this '97 is the one to get.
right now i own a dodge CTD and i have been having problems after problems. but i really like diesel so i figured i would try going with a ford so any advice would be helpful.

How many miles are on the truck ? does it have any mods done to it. I think the auto was the weak link when you start adding HP.

here is a e-mail i got from the guy telling me some of what has been done to the truck.

(It's has a rebuilt ford auto tranny should still be under warranty (i'm checking w/ the dealer on it), here's what i've done to it, new tranny filter, fuel pump, new front rotors/pads, new front shocks, new front door pins, put on real locking hubs, new poly cab mounts, new steering column, new front spring and shackle poly bushings. I've had the truck for about 6 months, it drives good, doesn't leak anywhere, no engine smoke when it starts. I put a bullydog shift kit in, shifts firmly, also have a Superchips on it.)


i drove the truck tonight and it drove o.k (does not have as much power as my CTD but it's not that bad and the streets were wet so i really could not get on it like i wanted)
