Buying a used diesel??????

I am looking into buying a used 7.3L. Are there certian questions I should ask the dealer? Certian things I should look for? A friend of mine told me about the oil pan, and how it is expensive to change, but how do I know if it needs to be changed? The truck does have a plow, I forgot to mention that. Thanks for your help

check for leaks. the oil pan can rust. check for sever oxidation on it.

remove the turbo intake boot. and check the finns to make sure they are sharp and straight.

If the truck is from the midwest or the upper NE where road salt is used in the winter, then you just need to look at the pan for rust.
Things to look at or ask about:
1 Ball joints, they will go bad by 100k miles
2 Oil and fuel leaks in the valley which is HPOP o-rings, turbo pedistal or fuel drain
3 Up pipes. will leak also around 100k
4 water pump, many last a long time but some will go bad by 150k
5 transmission, has it been serviced regularly and has it towed heavy loads.

These are just a few

Some more thought on the truck

The truck has 189,000 miles on it, it comes with a fisher plow. There is some rust on the tailgate. Is this a good investment? How long do you think this truck will last if it already has 189,000 miles on it. Thanks for the help

How much are they asking for it? I bought my truck used with 75,500 miles on it for about 16k and it runs fine to me, sometimes the gears slam when it shifts but other than that its fine. My oil just recently started leaking a little tho so idk if I have a problem there or not
