Big oil is nice, but it has a BIG cost. I am not having any problems running my Hybrids with the 17* pump.......

I just got my 17* pump in today and plan to put it on Sunday or Monday and see how it works. Cost $345 delivered and no core. If it works then great, if not then I will now have two pumps so I can get the big oil DIY kit for around $900 and have a true big oil system for around $1300.

I took my 15* stock HPOP off this weekend and replaced it with a reman 17* pump from the 99.5-03 models. I got the pump on eBay for $345. My pressure before with chip on max would hit about 2200 max when floored and drop off below 1800 psi. Now she hits about 2600 when floored and quickly builds up to 2800+. I haven’t driven it enough yet to see how much difference it is going to make. One thing I have noticed is it takes a second or two longer to start now.

It took about 3 hours to do and was a bit of a pain. If I remember right (there were a few Captain Morgans involved) I used a 8, 10, 18mm socket and a ¾ wrench and a screw driver and a ¼” air ratchet and ½” ratchet. Don’t have any idea if I did it the “right” way but I removed the front cover with 8mm socket and the front bolt with 18mm socket. Then I removed the pump mounting bolts with a 10mm socket. I used the ¾ wrench to remove the oil lines at the pump and wound up having to remove the intake spider to get the pump out. Putting the pump back in I used masking tape to keep the springs from falling out of the line ports until I got ready to hook the lines back up. I added a new picture folder to my signature link with new and old HPOP pics in it.
