Help! friend put GAS in our PSD!!!
Loaned the '99 PSD to a friend, he was nice and topped off the tank but, after driving it home, hubby found the receipt for GAS. The truck drove decently on the way home. The friend put 5 gallons of gas in, there would have been between 15 and 20 gallons of diesel already in the tank. It's been driven about 20-25 miles on the mixture.
Please tell us there is hope... What is the best thing to do for it now? BTW, thanks for all your help this summer when we were buying an Excursion. We've had it for nearly 6 months now and love it. We had a baby at the end of July and then my PC crashed sometime around August or September and I just got it back up and running - so please forgive me if it seems like I just used ya'll back then. I may be around more now, but I'm trying not to fall back into my internet forum addictions.

If it was me i would just drain the tank and change out the fuel filter. Is it still running good?

I aggree if you are able to drain the tank and refill with fresh diesel. Also change the filter too. |

I have heard of truckers putting in gas at there fill ups to clean the inj out. But I have not seen it done.

But, if you run gasoline through your fuel system, you run the risk of damaging your injectors and pump -- they are made to run with the diesel fuel lubing the moving parts at high pressures -- just lowering that lubricity a little bit with that many gallons of gasoline could damage your injectors and cause problems in the future...
My advise would be to drain the tank and change the filter(s) and refill with diesel |

Id dump a bottle of 2 stroke oil and a bottle of diesel cleen in the tank and top it off with diesel every trip to town.

sounds like you had some good responses with the same solution, GL and congrats on the baby..... |

I'm with these guys for the most part. As big as your tank is, as long as you keep it toped off and maybe put some 2stroke in it, it should stay diluted enough to clean it self out.

BTW, it's a 26 gallon tank - if that makes any difference.
Thanks for all the responses! |
