auto or lock hubs?

what is best uses of auto locking hubs and turning hubs to lock manually all I've ever owened are 4x4's with hubs that are either locked or unlocked. Is it OK to turn 4 high switch on the fly 50 mph in auto lock mode? or should a guy have hubs in lock position for this any help here will be appreciated thanks guys.

could someone please help, I got no manual when I bought the truck, or I could just look there.

you cant turn the 4x4 high on at 50mph... you will break something... i usually stop to around 20mph or less and engage them by turning the switch... that is when i used to have the auto hubs... i have since switched to Warn Premium hubs so i have to get out and lock them in when i need 4x4
