Newbie to diesel
Hello all, I just joined this forum and like what I read. I recently purchased a 2008 6.4 crewcab. I really like the truck. However, I dont know if its because of reading all these post, I find myself looking under the truck, hood and listening for anything out of the norm. Oh, this is also my first diesel. I have a couple of questions about a few things.
First, should I be seeing any smoke in the morning out of the exhuast? Its not really heavy and goes away after ive been driving a few minutes. It looks like vapor to me. The other thing i noticed today, when im driving and accel a little to speed up I hear a short whistle. is that normal? And the last thing, Since I heard the whistle, when I got home and put it in park and rev'ed it up. I could not hear the whistle. However, I did notice a small amount of black smoke out of the exhaust when I would rev it. Anyway, any feedback on these issue would be helpful. I just dont want to find myself paying high fees later for something I dont address quickly. Seeing as I only got a 12 month warranty. YIKES!![]() Bought it used with 57,800 miles on it.

Welcome aboard.
You shouldn't see any black smoke out the exhaust (assuming DPF is still in place) unless you have a bad DPF. Since you have a warranty I would take it in. The whole purpose of the DPF is to prevent ANY black smoke. If the dealer says otherwise you'll have to argue with them. I'm assuming this could be the same for your first question. Though it could also just be vapor as you think. Does it smell when you first start it? The Whistle could be your turbo or the turbo boot. Verify the boot is connected properly and see if it continues. |
