Shift Pattern?
So yesterday at work i saw a cool but differen't looking 6 speed (?) shifting pattern on some guys powerstroke when it came into the shop. The went
Reverse is all the way to the left and up , then right below it is L and then 1,2,3,4 and then to the right and all the way up is D . Is the d like 5th and they just label it as direct? And low is the starting for heavy hauling? i usually start in 2nd but which is second the actual 2 or the 1 because of that low gear. |

Nothing different about that pattern. The ZF6 has been like that since it was introduced. Low is low and only used off-road, heavy load in soft ground, etc. 1st gear would be what you normally take off in unless you have 4:30 or taller gears then you could probably manage 2nd. The D is actually an O with the D inside of it, but it looks odd. |

There is nothing wrong with starting in L then shifting out. I have done it several times and have never had a problem. That is why it is there to get a big load moving with less strain.
