400 watt linear amplifier - PCM death?
took the old amplifier and CB out of my 77 f150. its a 400 watt linear amplifier. Gramps said he could key it up in front of peoples houses and watch the tv go black, said never key it up around your buddies trucks cuz it can fry their radios, and apparently if you key it up around older volkswagens it will fry it completely
sooo could this cause any damage to the PCM? recommendations? |

I dont know the answer to your question but be careful not to get caught with that thing. Many states have laws regarding how powerful of a CB you can use for interstate travel.

Actully 400's not all that large. Hate to say this but Gramps might have stretched things a bit...you dont have to worry about frying anybodys radio keying up next to them. Old cb myth. As far as the TV's going black, we used to have a tv that Mom could change the channell by slammin the silverware drawer. Made for some comical arguments between the folks. So who knows what could of happened. What kind is it?

As far as getting caught, I ran for years with a 300watt strapped to the bottom of my Cobra 21 hanging right in the windsheild. Went through 100's of DOT checks never heard a thing.

I do know of trucking companies NOT wanting their drivers to run linears or amps in company trucks, but as for damages I havent seen any but dont know for sure either. I remember eariler vw's use to shut down but they would reset. St louis cb clubs have cb drags, there has been few radios tore up there but most likely self inflicted (too much power) Most likely place for answers would be professional cb or ham radio site. Maybe info from cb radio drag club site?
