2003 6.0 vs 2004 6.0 Excursion

I am looking at two different Excursions locally for sale. I am new to the 6.0 but am aware of the problems associated and the fixes too. I have done quite a bit of reading on this site in regards to them.

The first is a stock 2003 Excursion 6.0 Eddie Bauer Edition with 65,000 miles. Nothing has been done in regards to cold air intake, exhaust or EGR delete.

The next is a 2004 Excursion 6.0 Eddie Bauer Edition. 80,000 miles. It has cold air intake, 4" exhaust and A-pillar gauges.

They are priced about the same. The 2004 is about $2000 less than the 2003.

I am going to call on both tomorrow to find out about EGR, coolant filter and oil cooler upgrades. Is it worth spending the $ to put the exhaust and cold air intake on the 2003 with less miles. Or is the 15,000 miles insignificant? They are both in good shape with newer tires and brakes. The 2004 has DVD and I don't think the 2003 does.
I am more interested in the mechanical aspect of the vehicles though. Like I said I know the 6.0s had problems. I have read that after 2005-2006 the problems were resolved. Does that mean the 2003s and 2004s are not any good and should not be purchased?

Sorry for the long post but this would be a significant amount of money to spend and really don't like wasting money. I like both vehicles as far as the looks of them so again, it comes down to mechanics and aftermarket parts.

Thank you,
Chris

lot rot is probably the biggest concern with either one. go take a look at both, check for codes, and look for the obvious telltales.

First off, do you have a monitor?

And no, the mileage difference means nothing on a diesel.

If it were me I'd choose the 03.
