dont know which tune

new to the forum, my ? is i bought a 2000 f350 sd with a 7.3 already has mods done to it.it has a tune in it just dont know on mewhich one so my ? is if i try to put a new tune package on it will the ecu ,ecm , or whatever it called look up. need some input thanks smoke
