99 manufacture dates
i have read here that the late 99s had better parts than the early 99 models...what are the dates for this? im looking at a 99 250 ex cab auto xlt with 138000 on the clock for about 13500. i wanted to make sure it was one of the later 99 models before i buy it...thanks in advance...

check the sticker on the driver's door pillar. up to 12/7(?)/98 is 1st gen, 12/7/98 to 03/?/99 is a transition period.
check air filter, if round is 1st gen, some were updated to the flat, rectangular one after customer complaints(round type plugged too quick in dusty areas) change in mar, 99 among others, the front track bar got bigger, both the diameter of the bar and the size of the bolts, length is the same. i'm sure there are more changes, there was a change in how the rods are made, from forged to powdered metal, but i don't know the specifics of when Last edited by Colotow; 10-17-2007 at 11:53 AM. You can also check the powerstroke emblems. The early models had 'em on the front fenders behind the headlights and the later models have the rectangle door badges.
The later models have sound dampening material on the intercooler tubes also. The earlly models have 120 cc injectors and a different turbo. Later models have 140 cc injectors. |
