97/96 F 250 question
Hello all this is my first post to this form and it is a pretty easy one. I used to own a 97 f 250 power stroke with all the bells and whistles. Myself and my wife used to pull a steel gooseneck horse trailer with it and it worked great. Now we are going to get back into the horse/dog world and we need to pick up a truck. Most trucks that old have tons and tons of miles on them and alot of wear and tear on them. So the question is do you think that I could still hall a big horse trailer and every thing that goes with it safely around the country with that year of truck.
When does a truck like that really wear out. Thanks Last edited by mudwip; 10-14-2007 at 08:54 AM. Reason: Did not get my point through |

when you get into those older years, you run the risk a that vehicle having been used and abused. some are fine/well maintened the only thing to worry about is just the mileage. others, the previous owners didn't do maintenance very well.
you will simply be playing russian roulette. some are good, some are not. mine F250 is a 96er and the previous owners didn't drive it very much. as a result my fuel pump went out. |

Welcome to the ORG!! I have a 97 as my daily driver and it can handle anything I throw at it. As previously stated you really have to do your homework on a vehicle before you purchase it. There will be things that go wrong with older trucks, but this could be said for any truck really. Anything pre-owned is a gamble. The 7.3 in a 97 if taken care of will handle a trailer for years with no problems. If you narrow down your search to one particular truck then run an OASIS report on it. This will tell you the history of said vehicle.
