question about my alternator
hello all, i have a question about my 94 f250 non-turbo diesel. will having an alternator that doesn't put out enough voltage, effect fuel mileage? i have been gettin poor fuel mileage, and i notice that my alternator is not working properly (putting out 12.4V) im getting it rebuilt in the morning...any thoughts???

I doubt it would have any effect on your fuel mileage. What is your mpg you are getting right now.

highly unlikely on the IDI engines. Low voltage on those engines means hard to crank/glow plugs not working right. on the PSD, low voltage = engine won't run right.

Your getting 25-29 mpg with an OBS non-turbo truck. Your not getting low mpg's your getting great mpg's especially with that amount on the clock. How ever if it is 25-29KPG since you reported 330000kms on the clock then that is still good mileage for that old of an engine.

it seems that i get about 500kms per tank (dual tank 72L) now that i have the alternator fixed (60$ cad) it runs better and smokes a little less..another question...this is my first diesel that i have owned ( used them for snow plowing for years) but is there anything that i should be doing, different than a gas motor? and different maint. things that i can do? thanks
