Muffler laws by state?

I was thinking about getting a muffler delete pipe for my 6.0, but was curious as to what the laws are state by state? The shop here in AL tells me that its perfectly legal to have a straight piped diesel, but I didnt want to rely on hearsay. My truck is registered in LA, and I travel between LA, MS, AL, and FL a lot. Is there any good site to figure this out?

Logan,

I was stopped once in my Gasser I had dualled with 4" LONNNNNG tips to "Lay off those pipes boy" By a cop once, but I escaped a ticket.... In his defense I was purposely not shifting so it would be louder than it needed to be

Check each states Dept. of Transportation websites, or their Dept. of Public Safety websites. Here in Texas it's not so much an issue on the state level but more of an issue on the city/town level

I may be wrong, but I think it is illegal to have a straight pipe anywhere. But following all the rules is no fun!! I have one and no one has said anything to me. Prob the biggest thing is dont romp on it at night.....
