I have a 2001 Excursion with traces of oil all over the top of of the intake plumbing. I have a friend who is very skilled at rebuilding and modifying turbo chargers. I am looking for a core, which he can trick up prior to replacing the "leaker". What year Powerstroke turbos are the same as my 2001? Thanks.

Hey Mon,
I do not believe the stock turbo can be tweaked except for changing the compressor wheel, HTT are rebuildable, GT38R are Ball Bearing and whistle Loud, Check other posts here, I'm sure you'll find better info.

My friend is pretty good with a tig welder and a Bridgeport. He is going to use one of his cartridges and basically gut the turbo and compressor housing to fit the good stuff inside the Garrett shell. My only concern is keeping him from overdoing it. He has quite a few diesel pulling trucks and tractors, enough is never enough with them boyz!
