New purchase

Hey guys,

I am still in the market for a 1999-2003 7.3L 4x4 DRW. As I said before, be prepared for a lot of silly questions as this is all new to me . Thanks for all of your help and patience so far.

I keep finding these trucks that make me think the odometer might have been rolled back. Some currently have less miles on them than Carfax says they had 13 months ago. Right now I am looking at one that isn't that obvious. It claims to have 111,053 on it now. Carfax said it went to auction with 111,022 in May of 06.

I have two questions:
1. Is a Ford dealership a good third party place to take a truck (diesel ofcourse) that I am interesting and get it checked out before I buy it?
2. Will they be able to see the actual mileage via the computer and tell me what it is in case the odom was rolled back?

Thanks again everyone!

man that is tuff, go with your gut instinct, if it sounds to good to be true, then it prob is..

the dealer prob wont know for sure, i have heard that if you see the gauge (miles) flutter or act funny then it prob has been tampered with, but Ford has the digital, i dont think you can tamper with that.

You're right. I should probably walk away. Its just so strange. The entry below is the last item on the Carfax for the truck.

05/31/2006 111,022 Auto Auction Sold at auction in Florida Listed as a dealer vehicle

Its got a manual odometer.

hrmmm... yah, I'd think it should have way more than 30 miles on it in a year and a half...

I'd steer clear of it if I were you

Thanks for your reassurance guys. I walked away and found something better elsewhere.... At least I hope it is. It looks like it is anyway. Its out of town, and I am going to have the owner take it to Ford tomorrow for a thorough inspection and drive test. Is the dealership a good place for an pre-purchase inspection? Its the one he bought it at... not sure if that makes a difference.

They are going to charge me. They already told me a price for the inspection. I don't have anyone that can look at it.

That other truck sound like a Katrina truck. Good move walking away.
Sounds like an oasis report would help you.
