4x4 not working

I am posting this information for those of you who have ford 4x4. I recently wrote another thread asking for some help regarding a not functioning 4x4.

Here is what I learned so you can pass on the info.......

I had a 4x4, electronic switch, 7.3 Powerstroke, that would not engage in fwd. What the problem was, was that the shift motor had locked up, as a result burned out my ECM and later my switch. I had to replace the switch, ECM, and shift motor.

May want to pass on that my culprit was the shift motor.

The motor is ussually to go first. Nothing yet for me, knock on wood. Good to know trying to use it when it won't work could damage something.

No. The light was not coming on. I had to go to the ford techs and hook up to their computer testers. The first time I went there the computer was giving a failed switch and or ECM (electronic control module). I then replaced both and the truck could now "talk" to the computer and tell that I cad a bad motor. During the test, it was checking multiple plates and one plate stayed continuously open. That told my tech the motor was out.
