newb question 7.3 white smoke and hard start

I recently purchased a 02 f350 with 248k on it, has an exhust, intake and I am let to believe a chip by the amount of smoke/and performance it produces. When I start it in the mornings it starts hard and produce an abnormal amount of white among of white smoke for a minute then is gone. The truck starts hard and usualy have to cycle the glow plugs twice. One the truck is running it runs fine. The truck did not do this 400 south when I bought it and ran great the whole way home. This make me think it is glow plug/relay related. What could be causing this and how do I diagnose this?
Thanks in advance Robb

Ohh I do not know if glowplugs/relay have ever been replaced.

Sounds like either your GPs or GPR crapped out...GPs stay on for two minutes after you turn the key so cycling doesn't do much..
