2002 excursion

hello all new to the forums and also really to the diesels in genral ive driven them of course in the corps and also in civi life but i havnt gotten down to the nitty gritty of them i am currently thinking about purchasing a 02 excursion with the 7.3 getting a hell of a deal but the miles are high about 280k what should i look for i have not purchased it yet and am wondering if this is high or would it be ok if the price is right ive heard that diesels last forever but how long is forever thanks for any insight
