Tune or not tune
After many months of looking I finally purchased my truck this past summer. Its an 05 6.0 with about 72,000 miles. It's currently in the shop having the FICM replaced....it would barely start on these cold mornings we've been having.
This is my first diesel and I'm hearing alot about aftermarket tuners. My question is this.....Is this worth doing and what can I expect to get out of my truck with a tuner? Thanks. |

Get EGT and trans temp gauges. And a way to monitor ECT or EOT. Then tune it.

Like Dave said get some good gauges first so you can see whats going on. I had an 03 with the 6.0 and I bought the Edge CTS Insight for the gauges. It works awesome, you can monitor a lot of stuff, everything you need and you can hook up a back up camera to it which I used and worked great. For the tuner I had an Edge w/attitude at first and didn't like it so I got rid of it and got the SCT X3 from Eric at Innovative Diesel and holy crap that thing was an animal, ear to ear grin every time I drove it, night and day difference from the Edge one. Not to say there is anything wrong with Edge they make good stuff but the SCT is what a lot of guys have for the 6.0 and they work great. I may still have the SCT from my old truck, I got a newer truck and doesn't use that model of SCT. If your interested I'll sell it, let me know I'll see if I can find it in the garage, Its unlocked so its good to go.
