Too late to install an aftermarket coolant Filter?

My brother's 2000 7.3 has 230k miles on it. The coolant has been changed several times. At this point, would most of the casting sand be out of the system, or would it still be a good idea to install the coolant filter?

Just read about this issue. Too bad Ford deleted the filter in their application.

Thank you
