I took the truck in for a 60k service this morning and the tech told me that my trans fluid looked perfect and smelled fine and that he didn't think it needed to be changed even thought it is at the recommended interval. I haven't been doing any towing lately and don't plan to do any in the next couple months.
Any comments, opinions or attitudes? PS. Yes the mileage is correct, the truck is a 2002 and has 60k miles on it. It had 17.5 when I bought it 2 years ago. |

I would flush it. They say when you wait too long after some sludge has built up is when you can have issues with flushing a trans.

I live in Arizona, have over 30 years in automobile working experience, even given the advancements as of late would say change it.
The oil and labor even changing it twice as often as Ford notes is lots less than the cost of an transmission repair bill alone the associated cost of the tow and other things one could happen. |

Change it, don't go by what the color or smell is it is due for change by Ford Maintanence specs.

OK, the popular opinion is to have it changed so I will. I cant do it myself because I am away from home for work for a couple months and dont have tools or a place to do any work on it.
Oh well, guess I'll have to spend a few days perdiem on trans fluid instead of beer.

Better than spending a few months per diem on a new tranny later on
plus better to keep that sucker as pristine as it is rather than save a few bucks |
