fuel is loading up like it if flooding

i have a 2004 6.0 250 and runs fine at higer speed [60 -70 mph.when i slow down it will load up and puff out black smoke and stall.i will take it out of gear and push the throttle to the floor to clean it out,it works ok for a little while.no lights are on except one that looks like a gas pump with rain on it.i have drained the fuel at the pump and don't get any water.this is my first ford or diesel. i need help

im pretty sure that is the water in fuel light... might wanna drain your water/fuel seperator... and im a 7.3 guy, im not sure where the water drain is on the 6.0s but our is under the hood on the left front of the engine with a bright orange or yellow handle that u have to turn to drain the bowl. someone who knows how will be along soon to help you out if you cant find it. good luck dennis, hope it is only that!

if your draining from the plug in the hfcm in the left framerail under the cab and not getting water out,it could be that the sensor is bad.to be safe let it drain a bit more and see if the light doesnt go out. for the smoking and stalling try cleaning the egr valve its easy to do and i believe there is a write up about it in the tech files section.when was the last time the fuel filters were changed,if its been awhile change them too for good measure.good luck hopefully some of this will help.
